The Applied Sociology Department and the Department of Sociology and Social Work have begun the activity within the framework of the Megaproject of Open Society Institute (Soros Foundation). The biennial project was started in February, 2000.

The aim of the project is to carry out the empirical, cognition-theory research (in the form of research laboratory or workshop under the guidance of Prof. V.A.Yadov) by the joint team of participants from the resource centre and regional departments (Nizhny Novgorod State University and Kuban State University). Besides the project includes development of 16 training courses, preparation of the "summer school" concept, training of post-graduate students, conferences and seminars.
