Sergei Nikolayevich Gurbatov. Born 08.02.50. Doctor of Sciences (Physics and Mathematics) (1985), professor of the Department of Acoustics at the Faculty of Radiophysics (1988), head of department of Acoustics (1986), member of specialized councils in acoustics: K 063.77.03 at the University of Nizhni Novgorod and K 033.38.02 at the Institute of Applied Physics of the Russian Academy of Sciences, member of the board of the Russian Acoustic Society, dean of the Faculty of Radiophysics.
Graduated from the Faculty of Radiophysics of Gorky State University in 1972 with honours specializing in Radiophysics. The topic of his D.Sc. dissertation is "Non-linear interaction and dispersion of random waves in non-dispersive media". He had research placements at the Danish Technical University in 1983 and at Cambridge University in 1990. Area of scientific interests: theory of non-linear random waves and turbulence, waves in random media, non-linear acoustics and ocean acoustics. Co-authored the monograph "Non-linear random waves and turbulence: waves, rays and particles" and the book "Acoustics in problems".
